Workshop com João Pedro Rodrigues & João Rui Guerra da Mata
BoCA Summer School 2020
Workshop with JOÃO PEDRO RODRIGUES & JOÃO RUI GUERRA DA MATA (Portugal)
Cinema
“Fiction 2 meters away”
In this workshop, the directors João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata will not only question cinema with “restrictions / limitations / conditionalities / constraints / obstacles / antagonisms / setbacks”, but they will also establish possible parallels between the current epidemic and the HIV virus, evoking the French writer and photographer Hervé Guibert. How should we think about these constraints on cinematographic creation? As they say, “Free creation implies the conquest of freedom: collective, because cinema is not made alone; and (even more difficult to achieve) individual, because we have to face our demons. What should we be doing? Writing, as Guibert implored, or, in our case, FILMING.”
Participants in the workshop are invited to bring along their own outlines for a film or audiovisual project, so that they can discuss these with this artistic duo.
