On March 22nd, 30 workers will destroy several traditional Portuguese fishing boats in what will become a visual and aural sound installation for the Oval Gallery at MAAT. “Order and Progress” evokes, on one hand, the maritime traditions so profoundly rooted in Portuguese identity, and, on the other, the socio-political dimension that has come to characterise Zamora’s artistic practice. Here, the reference is to the idea of promise contained in the clandestine boats that have transported thousands of refugees across the Mediterranean.
