New Creation – Performance in the natural space

And when I create an environment called
voglio vedere le mie montagne (I want to see my mountains) I mean an inner archetype of the idea of mountain: the mountains of the self.
Joseph Beuys, 1979

In the year of the centenary of the birth of Joseph Beuys (1921-1986), BoCA creates the project “A Defesa da Natureza” (“Defense of Nature”), a collaboration aimed at promoting new artistic creations.
Curated by Delfim Sardo and Sílvia Gomes, “Quero ver as minhas montanhas” (“I want to see my mountains”) counts on the participation of the artists Sara Bichão, Diana Policarpo, Dayana Lucas, Gustavo Sumpta, Gustavo Ciríaco, Musa paradisiaca and Berru.
The premise invites artists to look at Beuys’s legacy while observing their own mountains, their own ‘selves’.
With diverse backgrounds and artistic genres from plastic to the performing arts, each artist is invited to conceive a single intervention to be held by the sea, the river or in a green space, nurturing affinities between art and nature.
Seven unique sessions for every Sunday of the programme, set between Lisbon, Almada and Faro.

Diana Policarpo
– “Green Walks”

A series of podcasts recorded by various experts that bring together guided botanic tours, from weeds to medicinal herbs, to the soundscape and the heritage and historical side of Tapada das Necessidades. Anyone visiting the park will be able to consult a map, designed specifically for this purpose, and walk through the suggested itineraries while listening to the previously recorded routes that are available online.
During this interactive tour, which doesn’t require booking, one can get to know the importance of plant life in a public space, the maintenance of biodiversity and the identification of the various species that inhabit this endangered place.
In the artist’s words, “The project was initially thought of in the form of face-to-face guided tours that, allegedly, were not authorized (the reason is not known to date), and so it was changed to the audio-guide format available in a version website on the BoCA page.
With the participation of: Fernanda Botelho, Ivo Meco, Margarida Mendes, Amigos da Tapada das Necessidades com os convidados João Albuquerque Carreiras, Pedro Costa e Fernando Teigão dos Santos.
