ITALY | LIVE ACT

Caterina Barbieri’s music has its origins on the meditation over primary waves and the polyrhythmic dance of harmonics as synthetic sounds, on the brink of drone, minimalism and techno.

Through her minimalistic modular language, Barbieri explores the psychophysical effects of repetition and its operations based on patterns in music, uncovering the polyphonic and poly- rhythmic potential of sequencers do draw complex and severe geometries in time and space.

Her algorithmic approach to composition rooted in minimalism and Indian tradition, as well as her pragmatic attitude towards sequencing, unfolds in audible images that are surprisingly organic and almost tangible, to which she refers as “ecstatic computation”. Barbieri is a master of potentially hypnotic effects made by phsycoacoustic repetition in the human mind.
