DIANA POLICARPO
Artist Resident 2019-2020
Diana Policarpo (1986, Lisbon) is a visual artist and composer based between Lisbon and London.
She studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon, graduated in Fine Arts from the College of Art and Design (ESAD) and holds a Masters in Visual Arts (MFA) from Goldsmiths College, University of London. At the moment she develops its artistic activity between the visual arts, electroacoustic music and the multimedia performance.
Her work investigates relations of power, popular culture and gender politics, juxtaposing the rhythmic structuring of sound as a tactile material within the social construction of esoteric ideology. It creates performances and facilities to examine experiences of vulnerability and empowerment associated with exposure to the capitalist world.
Her sound work and installations were shown in individual exhibitions at Belo Campo / Galeria Francisco Fino, Lisbon, PT (2018); Kunstverein Leipzig, DE (2017), LAB Artists Unlimited, Bielefeld, DE (2016); Xero, Kline & Coma, London, UK (2015) and Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, DE (2014). His work was also included in collective exhibitions at Chiado 8, Lisbon, PT (2018); Galeria Municipal do Porto, PT (2018), Francisco Fino Gallery, Lisbon, PT (2017), Tenderpixel Gallery, London, UK (2017); Mars Gallery, Melbourne, AU (2017), North Gallery, New Castle, UK (2016), Peninsula Gallery, New York, USA (2015), W139, Amsterdam, NL (2015) and AN / DOR, London, UK ). Policarpo has recently presented performances and readings at the Manuel Passos (Porto, PT), Kunsthall Oslo (NO), LUX – Moving Image, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Cafe Oto, Royal College of Art, Pump House Gallery, Iklectik, IMT Gallery , Enclave Gallery, Tenderpixel Gallery and Goldsmiths College in London.
